Contact Lenses Do’s and Dont’s
DO
- Always wash and dry your hands thoroughly before handling your lenses
- Clean your contact lens case as they can be an ideal breeding ground for bacteria and replace the lens case on a regular basis
- Return for your aftercare appointments and remember to wear your lenses
- Remove the lenses if you experience any pain/redness/decrease in vision and return to see your Optometrist
- Enrol on a regular DD scheme so your lenses are replaced frequently
- Use only the products recommended by the optometrist and follow the manufacturer’s guidelines. Do not swap and change between lens solutions.
- Always clean the lenses as unclean lenses can cause serious eye infections
- Bring you case and spectacles with you to all appointments
REMEMBER – if in doubt, take the lenses out!
DON’T
- Lick your contact lenses
- Use eye drops or any eye medication without your Optometrists advice
- Wear lenses if feeling ill or rundown can result in infection
- Continue using same lenses/solution/case if you have an eye infection – discard all and your Optometrist can supply new lenses and sterile case and solutions
- Continue wearing lenses if you cannot afford the time or the money to care for them properly
NEVER
- Ever use tap water anywhere near your contact lenses.
- Ever make a home-made saline solution
- Wear lenses longer than advised
- Swim wearing contact lens without water-tight goggles
- Sleep in your lenses unless instructed by the Optometrist that its safe to do so
- Leave lenses out of solution
- Use lens products outside their sell by date
- Lick your lenses
